The chronograph is my favorite type of watch. And I have been dying to find a great chronograph watch for the longest time.
I must have searched for weeks until I came upon the Seiko Sndc31 on Amazon. I fell in love with the watch immediately.
This watch has a very retro (and classy) look and will make you look so much more sophisticated.
Here is my Seiko Sndc31 Review…
Seiko Sndc31: The Basics
The Seiko Sndc31 is a chronograph watch.
The chronograph functions include seconds, hours, and 1/20 seconds (0.5 seconds).
Yep! This is one of the few chronographs that actually counts milliseconds.
In fact, I’ve never seen that before. This is a really cool feature and the 1/20 second chronograph subdial spins around pretty fast!
The watch also has a date function at 3 o’clock.
The actual leather strap of the watch is made from calfskin. The description on Amazon days this color of the band is brown, however that is misleading.
The color is actually more like a burgundy – so keep that in mind when pairing your outfits.
Here are the specs on the Seiko Sndc31:
- Case diameter: 38 mm
- Case thickness: 10.5 mm
- Band width: 19 mm
- Band material: Calfskin
- Water resistance: 330 feet (100 meters)
- Movement: Japanese-Quartz
My experience with the Seiko Sndc31
I got the Seiko Sndc31 earlier this year and I can’t believe how I lived this long without it!
The watch is crafted beautifully. I mean this what is not to love about this thing?
It has a really classy “old school” watch vibe…like from the 70s or 60s. And the font is beautiful. The watch is also fairly shiny, which I love.
Here are things I love about the Seiko Sndc31:
1. Retro and classy look:
I love retro watches. Unfortunately, many of them are fairly expensive and need a lot of expensive maintenance too.
However, the Seiko Sndc31 combines new world technology and the old world look.
I love the beautiful subdials on the chronograph. It just looks incredible.
And one of my favorite things about this watch is the font. The numbers look very elegant and almost like a form of cursive.
Further, I love how the watch is very tiny as well. It’s a 38 mm diameter watch and the case is 10.5 mm thick. It looks wonderful on my wrist.
If you have bigger wrists, the watch may look too small. But on mine, it looks just right!
2. Insane chronograph features:
The large main second hand is actually the chronograph second hand. It looks incredible when spinning around.
I love resetting the chronograph timer and watching the large second hand spin around back into place.
However, I would say the crown jewel on this watch is the 1/20 second chronograph subdial (on the top).
This beautiful feature measures 0.5 seconds. It’s really nice if you need to be more accurate with your timing (like timing horse races or sprints).
I’ve actually never seen this on an analog watch before so I love it and think it’s one of the more distinguishing features of this amazing watch.
3. High quality leather
I love the leather on this watch. Fair warning, the color is actually a burgundy despite the fact that it says “brown” in the item description.
The burgundy leather will pair beautifully if you’re wearing a nice pair of similarly colored boots.
Anyways, I like the leather strap because it molds to your wrist fairly quickly. By the second week of wear, this thing was wrapped onto my wrist like an extension of my body!
4. Illuminates in the dark:
One of the understated features of this watch is that it illuminates in the watch. At 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock, there are small circles that will light a dim green light in the dark.
Also, the minute and hour hands will light up as well.
This makes checking the time early in the morning a lot more manageable. I hate opening my phone and getting absolutely blinded! This watch solves that problem and saves my eyes 🙂
Here are things I don’t like about the Seiko Sndc31:
1. Date feature is inaccurate
In general, I find the date feature to be widely inaccurate. Even if I change the date exactly at midnight, it seems to be either too fast or too behind.
As a result, I find myself changing the date every day to make sure it’s right.
2. This is a pretty dressy watch
The Seiko Sndc31 is a dressy watch. I would only go down to business casual when wearing this watch. As a result, the watch shouldn’t be worn with at the gym or paired with a t-shirt/jeans outfit.
This limits the versatility of the watch, but I still love how it looks.
Who is the Seiko Sndc31 for?
I would say the Seiko Sndc31 is for professions. This will look great in a suit or in a more casual office environment.
The watch looks incredibly classy and you will be sure to get a lot of compliments.
Just don’t wear this to the gym or company marathon!
Final Verdict On The Seiko Sndc31 Chronograph
Overall, I love my Seiko Sndc31 Chronograph. It’s one of my favorite watches and it’s actually my go to watch if I need to go to an event hat needs a suit and tie.
The Chronograph is absolutely beautiful and breathes high class from the painted Arabic numerals to the incredible chronograph subdials.
If you want to look classy and more successful, get this watch ASAP!
